Central Georgia PAWs to CARE

PAWs to Care is really taking off and our visits are a welcome sight. We are making more new friends as we grow. (12/30/09)

Our Canine Good Citizen Program is going well.  All of our current graduates have met all requirements, passed all of our tests and are now registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs Inc.  This is an organization out of Wyoming that sponsors therapy dog team visits.  Check out their interesting website.   Our group is now six (6) members strong, with new teams coming on board  to start training in the next couple of weeks.  We will be calling our local group  'Central Georgia Paws to Care'.   For more info call (478)951-7810.

The Cherry Blossom Festival was a great success- despite terrible weather and a final, possible cancellation. We led many beginner dogs through a simple agility pattern for donations, which went to FUREVER FRIENDS Rescue. Save-A-Pet was there and adopted 1 wonderful dog,Wanda. Her and her new owners are currently in our Beginner Obedience class and will graduate this Tuesday. Wonderful Wanda and her new family are a perfect match, thanks to Geri @ Save-A-Pet. Congrats!

Our 2nd demonstration for this spring was for Noodles For Poodles. This event is all about Save-A-Pet in Monroe County. It is sponsored by Grits Cafe', owned proudly by Wayne and Terri Wettindorf. The events for the evening are endless; A wonderful pasta dinner, silent auction, raffle for a cooking classhosted by Wayne and Terri personally right in the Grits Cafe' kitchen, Obedience and Agility demonstrations, and new this year - Kevin Olney put together a video collage, shown at the Rose Theater. This was J-A-J's 2nd year attending and giving giving demonstrations at this event. The only thing I can say is : it goes by too quickly and I can'y wait until next year!

Thanks to all the students who came out to help with both these events, ENDLESS THANKS! We couldn't have done it without you!

Anne Perry at  http://www.stitchesbyanne.info/ has been an endless supply of help and information to J-A-J Dog Training. Anne makes weighted blankets and misc. items to aid autistic and special needs children. Please check out her website. It is a pleasure and a wealth of information.

The Peach Blossom Cluster Dog Show, sponsored by the American Kennel Club, was a complete success. 2 other evaluators and myself did Canine Good Citizen Evaluations on Saturday and had a blast. We met with and evaluated 50 dog-handler teams. What a treat to meet with so many responsible dog owners all in 1 day, I was proud to be a part of this event. 1 dog (out of 50) did not pass due to aggression issues. Training and socializing recommendations were given and they will test again at a later date. Jennifer and Pupster comppeted in Rally Novice A and over the 3 day periond competing, they recieved their title. Shiloh and I competed in Obedience Novice A and got 1 leg toward their title. Shiloh's nose got the best of her and got her off track.   Jo and Beau competed in Obedience Novice A and did a wonderful job. Beau's  inexperience and playfulness got the best of him, but each day he did a better job and stayed more in task. It's one thing to stand on the sidelines and watch- but it's another thing to actually dive in and compete. GOOD JOB JO & BEAU!

Our session to make agility jumps was a success!  We packed up our dogs and our check books and headed down to Lowe's in Macon on Zebulon Road.  They welcomed our canine partners with open arms (when they found out that we are therapy dogs in training).  I had given everyone a diagram of what we were building, so, as a team we picked out all of our supplies.  The dogs were very patient and well behaved, despite lots of distractions.  The outcome of this great afternoon provided most of our agility students with 4 working jumps at home to practice and have fun with.
